Wide-Ranging Services to Keep Your Best Friend Happy and Healthy

Check-Ups

To give your pet the best possible care throughout their life, it pays to get into the habit of bringing them into us for regular check-ups early on. Check-ups can happen at the same time as their annual vaccinations or if you notice they are looking or feeling not quite themselves.

During the check-up our highly skilled vets look at a range of things such as  your pet’s weight, hips, eyes, ears, mouth, and heart rate. In addition, they may ask you questions about your pet’s diet, eating and drinking habits, toilet habits, behaviour and what flea/worm/tick prevention you are using. Based on our findings, we may also recommend treatment or medication for any issues we find and offer advice on how best to prevent any problems further down the track.

Vaccinations

Vaccinations (immunisations) are vital for your pet’s overall health, happiness, and longevity. Vaccinations prevent diseases in dogs, cats, rabbits, and ferrets. At Caringbah Veterinary Hospital, we offer a full range of animal vaccines and recommend that you start early and keep up to date with booster shots so your pet has the best quality of life.

When to Vaccinate?

  • Dogs

Puppies should have their first C3 vaccine at 6-8 weeks old, with follow-ups at 10-12 weeks and again at 14-16 weeks. About ten days after the 10–12-week shots, you can take your puppy out in public. The C3 vaccination will give them immunity against distemper, canine adenovirus and parvovirus, all of which can be life-threatening for puppies. After that, we advise that you bring your dog in for booster shots anually to keep up their protection.

We can also vaccinate against other diseases such as Parainfluenza virus, Bordetella bronchiseptica and Leptospira interrogans.

  • Cats

Kittens require their first F3 vaccination at 8 weeks old, with follow-ups at 12 and 16 weeks. Your kitten can safely venture outside ten days after their last round of vaccinations, with follow-up booster shots annually - the core F3 vaccine guards against feline enteritis, feline calicivirus and feline herpesvirus. We advise vaccinating against feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) and feline leukemia virus (FeLV) if your kitty plans to spend any time outdoors or around other cats.

  • Rabbits

Rabbits require vaccination against Calicivirus at 10-12 weeks old with bi-annual boosters, as recommended by the Department of Primary Industry.

Desexing

Desexing (neutering) your cat or dog is a quick surgical procedure. It is the most common surgery we perform at the hospital. It ensures your pet cannot breed and add to the overwhelming number of unwanted or stray animals.

We have decades of experience making this procedure as stress-free and painless as possible for your pet (and for you!). We advise desexing your pets when they are between 4-6 months old. This procedure also has the added benefits of preventing testicular and prostate cancers in males and breast cancers and uterine infections in females. It can also decrease aggression, particularly in males, making your pet less prone to wander.

We take the very best care of your pet during their hospital stay and will give you all the after-care advice and any medications they may need post-surgery to ensure your furry friend is back to themselves as soon as possible.

Pet Dentistry

Our furry friends are just as susceptible to gum disease and teeth issues as we are, and dental diseases and tooth decay are just as uncomfortable for them as they are for humans. Furthermore, left unchecked and untreated, it can lead to far more severe health issues that can be harder to treat. The knowledgeable staff at Caringbah Veterinary Hospital recommend a dental check-up at least once a year.

The highly trained vets at Caringbah Veterinary Hospital can perform a dental clean and polish, dental x-rays, dental extractions or surgery if your little mate requires. As your pet’s mental and emotional wellbeing is just as important to us as their physical health, we anesthetise your pet for a dental procedure.

Our dedicated staff will also give tips for keeping your pet's teeth and gums in excellent condition and provide suggestions for products or foods you can use to keep on top of their oral health at home.

Radiology & Diagnostic Services

Caringbah Veterinary Hospital offers state-of-the-art equipment and surgical facilities. Our in-house radiology and pathology enable our vets to diagnose and treat all issues and illnesses accurately and rapidly. We can perform x-rays, ultrasounds, and blood, skin and urine tests to pinpoint what is wrong and act on it quickly, ensuring a better outcome for your furry friend.

Having these facilities in-house also allows our qualified team to quickly send off any samples that may require a more complex assessment or a second opinion. These facilities help us deliver on our philosophy that prevention or early detection is the best method for successfully treating your pet and giving them the best chance at a long and happy life with you.
